The excess energy consumption in the North is leading the planet to the brink of collapse. The world’s largest energy consumers are the OECD countries. This consumption is also reflected in emissions of greenhouse gases. A citizen of the North consumes an average of ten times more energy than an Ecuadorian.

As importers of energy, the wealthy countries of the North have caused irreversible damage to the planet, by pressuring oil-producing countries to exploit and overexploit their reserves.

The time has come to pay these countries not to exploit their oil reserves.
